Just 3 km east of the CBD, Richmond has a layered personality owed to its rich history of being an industrial suburb and a municipality. Its surrounding areas are exuberant offerings of nature, framing the suburb in rich greenery and abundant rivers. 

Richmond is punctuated on its western boundary by a prominent hill simultaneously called Richmond Hill and Dockers Hill.
